What to wear | orange county family photographer

Outfit guide for family session. Family and childrens photographer orange county california

1. Choose a color scheme.  I would suggest choosing three main colors to work with.  This will give you more flexibility when it comes to dressing the entire family.  It will also give your pictures some dimension.  You want to go together, NOT match.  This means finding the colors you would like to work with and add in pieces that goes with that scheme.  Keep in mind that every person does not have to have every color in their outfit, you don’t want to look like you are wearing uniforms.

Start with MOM. Always MOM! Pick YOUR outfit first and go from there! A lot of times You might have something around the house that would work really well for pictures. Your favorite dress or your comfortable skinny jeans. You could add some fun and unique details to it by picking up a new necklace or some cool boots. Set up an idea board for yourself and let the creativity flow.

DO NOT. I REPEAT DO NOT: Scramble to pick outfits an hour before Your session (I am guilty of this myself .. ). Is just adds 100 extra layers of stress (most likely for mom). Get thinking right away when you book Your session. If you need help I am ALWAYS available to brainstorm with You. I have received texts from clients trying things on at the mall, I have scattered around Target to set up ideas for families and sometimes I bring along my favorite wrap to dress moms for maternity sessions. I am there to hold Your hand trough the whole process.

2. Prints and textures. For examples you can mix a piece with polka dots and a piece with stripes.  Try a printed or colored legging or tights to jazz up a dress or skirt. For texture add in different clothing materials: tweed, crochet and embroidery details, lace, ribbons, ruffles .etc.

3. Accessorize, and don’t be afraid to be unique. Hats, scarves, floral crowns, fashionable turbans and headbands, vests, suspenders, bowties, necklaces.etc.etc. can all complete an outfit.

4. Layers, layers, layers!  Layers are beautiful and create texture in pictures.  Add a vest, jacket, cardigan, bowtie, hat, scarf, suspenders, belt, jewelry, etc.  This makes your pictures pop!
